Fashion Cares 2010 - Atlanta

Last night, Atlanta's most philanthropic and fashionable supported the 18th annual "Jeffrey Fashion Cares" fundraiser. Established to support beneficiaries including the Atlanta AIDS Fund and Susan G. Komen for the Cure-Greater Atlanta Affiliate, Jeffrey Fashion Cares appears financially, to be among the largest 3rd party events in all of Atlanta's philanthropic endeavors.

This years show was chaired by Jeffrey Kalinsky, himself, along with honorary chair, Sara Blakely and featured guests designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler.

The evening's other amenities included delectable bites from Dennis Dean Catering, an intoxicating bar that featured Chambord Vodka, Bombay Sapphire Gin, Champagne, Bacardi and Menage a Trois wine.

Cheers to fashion and to caring!

Atlanta is En Vogue with Fashion's Night Out!

Surrounded by Atlanta style-setters including jodphur-wearing pop singer Janelle Monae, Project Runway contestant Mychael Knight and former NBA star Kevin Willis, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced Monday that the city will be part of a worldwide fashion promotion event called Fashion’s Night Out.

Speaking at City Hall, a natty-looking Reed, decked out in a dark Tom Ford suit and silver-blue tie, said, “We will be playing host to thousands of shoppers, including me.” Reed said he planned to be seen at Neiman Marcus, “where I’ve done some damage before.”On Sept. 10, clothing stores and boutiques around the metro area will hold concerts, pour drinks, host games and other activities in hopes of bringing shoppers out to stores.

Fashion’s Night Out is co-sponsored by Vogue, the city of New York and others, and premiered last year with 800 stores participating in New York City alone. Atlanta petitioned to be part of the event last year but was denied.

In the September issue of the magazine, Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour mentions Atlanta among a handful of U.S. cities as centers of fashion, a designation that ought to make the city happy, said Knight, sporting a tan two-button suit and open-necked turquoise shirt.

“Wait until I get my first time being mentioned in Vogue magazine,” Knight said. “I’ll be on top of this building screaming to the world.”

Kevin Knaus, a coordinator of a similar, smaller event last year, and professor of fashion marketing at SCAD, said the idea is to “get the consumers out to the stores.”

About 75 stores have signed on, Saks spokeswoman Michele New said.

Happy Birthday, Aric Rosenberg

One of my former Social Science "Socialites of the Week", Aric Rosenberg, is celebrating a birthday today.

If you read the archives, you'll see how dope he is, so I don't have to repeat myself.

Happy Birthday Aric. Cheers to you and the new venture, EPITOME, coming soon!

I know how you do and you're definitely gonna have a wonderful time tonight.

Cheers! Wish Aric "Happy Birthday" on twitter @aricrsly.

Happy Birthday, Andrew Jones

I'd like to give a Social Science shout-out to a fellow virgo and my often inappropriate little brother, Andrew Jones. Andrew is a part-time model, brainiac, hell-raiser, party boy and a whole lot in between.

If you see him in the streets (of Vegas, Miami, LA, and who knows where else) wish him Happy Birthday.

And, if you really want the inside scoop, follow him on twitter @adjonesii.

Happy Birthday Drew!

Cheers to the VIRGO!

This is the first complete week under the sun sign of VIRGO. If you didn't know, I, myself, am a Virgo in every sense of the word (good and bad!)

I'm gonna be hitting you all with a lot "Virgo-ness" in the next few weeks including birthday's, events, and all that jazz! Stay tuned. You'll definitely enjoy the posts, as nobody can do it quite as good as a VIRGO. It's how we're made!

Happy Birthday, Isoul Harris

I'd like to send a big Social Science "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" shout to my "Wonder Twin", Isoul Harris.

For those of you that know Isoul, you know that he is all things entertainment and media and is a BEAST at what he does. Hands down, one of the smartest and most well-traveled men I know, Isoul is the epitome of a renaissance man and is conquering the world, one pen at a time.

Follow him on twitter (@isoulharris) and send him a birthday shout. Tell him the Scientist sent you and he'll respond! LOL!

Happy Birthday Isoul! (I'll be back Monday with exploits from the celebration!)

Social Status: Socialite of the Week

I'm a man that's never been afraid to admit that I like to play with dolls and the SS "Socialite of the Week" is my newest, and currently, my favorite one!

One depressing, bleak January morning turned into a radiant day of beautiful bliss when Cynthia Bailey (now Thomas) walked into my life. We chatted, laughed, brainstormed and dreamed for an hour or so and have been friends since that day.

A gem of the fashion industry, Cynthia has pranced on runways in New York, Paris and Milan as well as covered magazines and has even had a guest role on The Cosby Show.

The rest of the world will soon meet the domestic side of Cynthia, as she debuts as one of the newest "Real Housewives" of Atlanta.

I love this lady and I know you will too. Google her and save her gorgeous images to your desktop. Invest in her stock now because she's money in the bank.

Cheers to you, Cynthia!

Guess Who's Back in the House!

They say "a
ll good things come to an end", but the world's guilty pleasure, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, is nowhere near ending! On Monday, October 4, the peaches will turn into bullets as shots of exploit, excess and entertainment great television screens around the world.

All of the original castmates will return, except Lisa Wu-Hartwell and they will be joined by two new ladies, Cynthia Bailey (Supermodel) and Phaedra Parks (Attorney).

I have the pleasure of knowing both of the two new castmates and they will, indeed, bring some on-screen goodies to the show.

I've also experienced quite a few of the moments from the coming season, and I can say that the RHOA will give you what you expect and more!

I hope you're ready for takeoff.....I'm not!

I've always believed in giving credit where it's due. I'd like to give a personal shout-out to one of my FAVORITE blogs that I often get information from to share with you. Though I've never met Miriam or Sarah, we do share mutual friends.

The blog is www.youmehimandher.com and it is wonderful. Congratulations Ladies. Keep speaking with a voice that nobody else can.

Until we meet . . .

All that glitters, ain't . . .

Speechless!

Well, I do have one word - WOW! Anybody that knows me and my aesthetic on entertainment knows why this has turned my world upside down. Can't wait.

But I must say, "wait'll they get a load of me!"

Stay tuned!
